Description

The BMW R50/5 Bobber was the last chance that BMW had to save it’s failing motorcycle production business. In the mid ’70, the German company made a final attempt to save two-wheelers. Motorcycles were important for the future of the BMW, so they went searching for the right person. The answer was the engineer Hans-Günther von der Marwitz who worked for Porsche. BMW managed to hire him and dedicated a new factory in Berlin just for motorcycles. He created some of the most successful bikes that BMW would produce and by doing so the company managed to stay in the business. This particular model was build in 1978 and as a tribute, Emporio Elaborazioni decided to modify this fantastic bike. The amazing classic they created was named Assolo.

Build

The R50/5 Bobber received a total makeover. When customizing the bike, the Rome based shop decided to let the imagination take over. Throughout the bike, there is a flowing contrast between the black and the metal. The team started by rebuilding the forks and the headlight back to factory specs. A new set of tires had to be made, so the black rims used Avon Speedmaster rubber. The back of the frame was cut, and a new pipework was welded onto the chassis. The shocks the team used a pair of modern YSS shocks that manage to increase the performance. An important part of the build was making the bike look shiny and clean like no other bike in the market. It could be noticed from miles away and the black with gold pinstriping gives a special vibe to it. The brass and alloy cap were handmade by the team.

Inside Assolo’s there is a durable and reliable BMW engine with 498 cc, air cooled and flat twin that would be the last of its kind. The valves of the engine are customized and TIG welded. The header pipes are made from stainless-steel, the velocity stacks are new and the bolt-ons are refurbished. The bike features a solo seat with premium black leather giving it a classic look.

The Emporio Elaborazioni made the R50/r Bobber more like a work of art and the wide and polished steering reaffirms that. Lastly to make the bike cleaner four custom-made LED were installed.

The bike is a perfect in every way thanks to the hard work and imagination of Emporio Elaborzioni’s team.
