A few years ago I was working on an Outlaw restoration for a ’69 911. The factory spare was removed to help bring the weight down, and the rim ended up on a shelf in my garage, for the first few weeks because I was too lazy to get rid of it, but after that, because I just enjoyed looking at it every day. That classic clover design, so perfect in its simplicity. Was it wasted in my garage? Would I be crazy to move it into my house, as an art piece? Well, not in its then-current state, so I spent the next few weeks in a paint lab agonizing over the perfect custom metallic gold. I sat it next to another mid-century icon, my Eames chair, two disparate design pieces that somehow do not at all seem incongruous right next to each other. This was the beginning of the PRZ Archives collection, but with so few authentic Fuchs wheels in existence, the purist in me wanted them on the road, not on a bookshelf, bar, or coffee table. So I ordered 911 replicas, all of which are signed and numbered, with a PRZ Archives certificate of authenticity.
