Renault AIR4 - Concept Art Car

The Renault AIR4 is a one off flying French car, a full carbon fibre reinterpretation of the Renault 4 that turns the icon of French motoring into a real VTOL machine. Designed, engineered and assembled entirely in France by TheArsenale and Renault, it claims the sky as the new road.

The Vision

Forty years after the slogan (in France, we have no oil but we have ideas), the third largest carmaker in the world called on TheArsenale to imagine what freedom of movement looks like when traffic never stops. The AIR4 was born in Sophia Antipolis, Europe's first technology park, on the Cote d'Azur, from a collaboration between Renault, TheArsenale and the best of French Tech. It is not a concept, not a joke: it is the first commercially available flying car inspired by the Renault 4, produced as a unique exemplar.

What Makes It

The AIR4 is built entirely in carbon fibre, drawing the exact silhouette of the original 1961 Renault 4 while housing four large rotors instead of wheels. Every panel is a bespoke composite piece, nostalgia meeting state of the art aeronautical engineering. The result is a post modern masterpiece where a retro icon becomes a rolling and flying sculpture, sold with Bitcoin as its payment method.

In the Air

The AIR4 takes off vertically, climbs at 11 m/s and cruises at a top speed of 26 m/s, with a flight angle of up to 45 degrees. At 190 kg it stays light and agile, born of the idea that the world above the road is clear and open to those who dare use it. Enthusiast drivers become pilots, and mobility becomes a three dimensional experience.
