The BMW R100 scrambler Project 32 by Herencia Custom Garage is a Buenos Aires-built commission for Argentinian brand Von Berry. It earns its place among the finest BMW customs not through volume or spectacle, but through the precision and care applied to every system on the bike.
The Concept
Federico and German at Herencia Custom Garage pay equal attention to the invisible and the visible. Project 32 is no exception. Every electrical system was addressed: the ignition replaced with a new electronic unit, and the lithium-ion battery hidden beneath the swingarm to eliminate any visual intrusion. The approach is consistent with the garage's reputation for builds that reward close inspection. Von Berry commissioned the bike as a brand object, and Herencia delivered something that functions as one.
The Build
The exhaust is a custom stainless steel unit, crossed and routed tightly past the rear shock to maintain the slim profile of the airframe. The rear dampers are a pair of restored Ohlins sourced from a 1975 Husqvarna CR390, chosen for their vintage character and proven performance. The tank comes from an 80s Yamaha XT250, fitted with a GPS speedometer that sits flush with the surface. The seat replicates a Webco flat track unit, connecting the build to a lineage of American dirt oval racing. The BMW R100 air-cooled boxer engine remains at the heart of the machine, its horizontally opposed cylinders visible from every angle as the defining structural element.
What Makes It
What separates Project 32 from the crowded field of BMW airhead customs is the restraint and specificity of every decision. The Ohlins dampers are from a specific year and make chosen for a reason. The XT250 tank was chosen for its proportion. The Webco seat replica connects the aesthetic to a racing tradition. Nothing is generic, nothing is approximate, and nothing calls attention to itself at the expense of the whole. The bike earns the spotlight because it was built to deserve it, not to demand it.
