The Canados Gladiator 428 is an Italian 42-foot high-performance day-cruiser, engineered as the ultimate tender-cum-yacht for the Mediterranean and Caribbean set. From Saint Tropez to Miami, it is the boat you take when you want to arrive in style without launching a superyacht.

The Design

Canados is a historic Roman shipyard that has been building yachts since 1946. The 428 Gladiator is their statement day-cruiser: a 13.07 m open speedboat drawn to combine outright pace with genuine on-board comfort. Its signature detail is a fully step-less cockpit architecture, unique in the category. From the swim platform to the bow, guests move around the boat without a single obstacle, which pays off visually from the stern and translates into safer, more usable deck space at anchor and underway.

What Makes It

Naval architecture is the Gladiator's other differentiator: the deep-V hull is tuned for a soft ride even in choppy water, delivering what Canados describes as one of the softest rides in the segment. A central integrated stairwell replaces the tightrope walk to the foredeck, opening up sunbathing space forward. The cockpit hosts up to 12 passengers, with a full galley, WC and sofa layout that lets the boat cross a whole day of St Barth or Porto Cervo without missing a beat. Displacement stops at 12 tons at full load, which keeps the boat nimble.

On the Water

Three engine packages are offered, from twin Volvo D6 400 hp inboards to twin FPT N67 570 hp, or up to four Mercury Verado 400 hp outboards. Top speed ranges from 39 to 52 knots (ISO 8666) with cruise between 32 and 44 knots, both figures within a 3 percent margin. Fuel capacity of 1050 litres gives real range for open-sea runs between islands, and the optional generator setup makes long lunches at anchor comfortable.
