The custom Ducati Scrambler 800 by EDALIS in partnership with Desmo Design is the world's first production-grade 3D-printed motorcycle customisation built atop an unmodified factory frame, a build that redefines what street-legal modification can look like.

The Concept

EDALIS is a Barcelona-based engineering studio that identified a problem facing every serious custom motorcycle builder: factory-frame modifications that compromise legal registration. Their solution was to design a full suite of replacement bodywork and functional parts that mount directly to the existing Ducati Scrambler 800 chassis without altering the frame or primary structure. Every piece is produced on Stratasys 400 and 900 industrial FDM machines, the same printers used in aerospace prototyping, not desktop hobbyist units. Desmo Design handled the styling brief, ensuring each printed component coheres visually with the Scrambler's existing proportions rather than fighting them.

The Build

The redesign covers the motorcycle from nose to tail. A new rear seat cover gives the Scrambler a sportier tail unit while the front mudguard gains a sculpted panel that matches the revised aesthetic. Functional upgrades include a custom wheel lock, revised headlight housing, an integrated license plate support with built-in indicators, a Ducati SDB sprocket cover, an exhaust line cover, and a Monza-style fuel cap adapter. Structural hardware is machined from racing-grade aluminium: handlebar brackets, bar-end mirrors, frame caps, and grip tips all benefit from CNC-milled metal rather than cast or pressed alternatives. A carbon fibre panel protects the tank sides and wraps around the exhaust system, adding heat shielding and visual depth in equal measure. The result is a motorcycle that passes every European registration check unchanged while looking nothing like the bike that left the factory.
