The Jet Shark Q400 is a 6.35 m semi-submersible boat that blends jet-powered surface cruising with underwater freedom. Styled like a fighter jet and controlled with a two-axis stick, it turns a day at sea into something closer to flying an aircraft on and just below the water.
The Design
The Q400 is the flagship of Jet Shark, a US builder specialising in submersible watercraft. Its silhouette is deliberately aerodynamic, more aircraft than powerboat, with a canopy that can be sealed to keep the cockpit dry when the hull ducks below the surface. The wingspan reaches 2.95 m for stability on the water, and a raised snorkel gives the boat its unmistakable predator profile.
What Makes It
The hull is a modified deep-V, hand-laid in fiberglass with vinyl ester resin for saltwater durability. The canopy is half-inch aircraft-grade acrylic sealed by pneumatic gaskets, creating a quiet, watertight cabin. Inside, the cockpit seats four or five in suspension-mounted bucket seats trimmed in premium marine upholstery, with air conditioning and a Kicker audio system. Instrumentation includes a Sihovision 16-inch waterproof navigation display, a Maratron N2K engine monitoring computer and a forward snorkel camera for situational awareness.
On the Water
Propulsion comes from a Kodiak Marine L87 6.2L V8 pushing 407 horsepower through twin impeller jets. Steering is done with foot pedals and a two-axis electro-hydraulic control stick that commands pitch and roll, letting the pilot glide across the surface or dip the bow for semi-submerged runs. Dry weight sits at 1405 kg with a 170 L fuel capacity, enough for extended day trips with real range.
