The Tinnie 10 by Joey Ruiter is a radically minimalist aluminum and white oak dinghy, a small vessel reduced to a single geometric idea by the American designer known for stripping vehicles down to their purest form.

The Design

The Joey Ruiter Tinnie 10 is essentially an isosceles triangle turned into a boat, and that is exactly the point. The Michigan based designer treats vessels the same way he treats motorcycles and cars, by removing everything decorative until only the object remains.

The result is a classy, sophisticated little dinghy that reads more like a piece of contemporary sculpture than a tender, and works as a genuine daily use vessel on lakes, coves and superyacht transfers.

What Makes It

The hull is formed from 1/8 inch thick aluminum, finished in black powder coat, giving the boat its sharp, matte, monolithic look. The floor can be specified in white oak plank, which softens the interior and adds a warm, marine cabinetry feel.

At 79 kg the Tinnie 10 stays light enough to be loaded, launched and stored without a crane, and the single bench keeps the interior visually calm. Every element you would normally see on a tender, cleats, splash rails, decor, has been removed or hidden.

On the Water

The minimalist dinghy can be fitted with a 6 hp combustion outboard or an electric motor, up to a maximum 10 hp. Electric power turns it into a silent, near stealth tender, ideal for still water and early morning use. The combustion setup keeps things simple and easy to service.

With a length of 3 m, a beam of 1.9 m and a maximum capacity of 2 persons or 226 kg, it works as a two person tender, a designer object for a private dock, or a highly photogenic prop for waterfront properties.
