The Valtteri Bottas 2012 helmet is an original Arai GP-6 RC race helmet used by the Finnish driver during his year as Williams F1 test driver, signed and offered with genuine marks of on-track use.

 

The Story

2012 was the year Valtteri Bottas broke through to the top of Formula 1. Signed by Williams as their reserve and test driver, he took part in a full programme of Friday practice sessions across the season, effectively serving as the team's third driver ahead of his full-time race seat in 2013. This helmet was used across that campaign, in the year that decided the trajectory of a driver who would later win ten grand prix and finish runner-up in the World Championship with Mercedes.

What Makes It

The shell is an Arai GP-6 RC, the FIA 8860-compliant carbon composite helmet used across Formula 1 in that era, built for impact and heat resistance at grand prix speeds. The livery is an early Bottas design, described in period as unusual for the driver, and is meaningfully different from the mostly blue-and-silver liveries that later became his signature. Every scuff and airflow mark on the finish comes from the practice sessions themselves, giving the piece the authentic character of a race-used helmet. It is personally signed by the driver.
