TOF

The Artist

Ed Turner Lebel is a French automotive artist known for cutting real engines, tanks and body panels in half and turning them into gallery-grade objects. His signature move: pairing mechanical hardware with pop culture graphics so the machine tells a story, not just a spec sheet. TOF sits inside that world, where an ordinary V-engine becomes a graphic novel panel frozen mid-blast.

The Piece

TOF is built around half of a genuine engine block, cleanly sectioned to expose the pistons, valves and internal geometry that most people never get to see. Out of the exhaust, oversized comic-strip lettering explodes across the wall, painted with a hand-finish that references vintage American cartoons. The contrast between cast metal and flat graphic color is what gives the work its punch, and it reads equally well in a garage, a loft or a private collector space. Because each piece is finished by hand, no two TOFs are strictly identical.
