BW Muscle Retro - XJR1300

The Yamaha XJR1300 custom cafe racer by Bad Winners, known as the Muscle Retro, transforms the legendary air-cooled four into a high-performance street machine that pulls directly from the visual language of classic racing.

The Concept

The Yamaha XJR1300 is one of the last true air-cooled inline-fours produced for the road, a machine with genuine muscle car swagger in motorcycle form. Bad Winners approached the Muscle Retro with a clear premise: take everything the XJR1300 does well, amplify the racing character, and build it into something that looks as fast as it is. GSXR wheels, racing-style bodywork lines and a complete suspension overhaul add visual and mechanical substance in equal measure.

The Build

The 1390cc engine retains its carburetors, now upgraded with OEM carbs fitted with a Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit and handmade air filters for improved breathing and throttle response. The exhaust is a Sparks system, chosen for its sound character and weight reduction. Front lighting switches to a full LED headlight and the speedo is replaced with a Motogadget unit. Suspension is upgraded to Ohlins units at the rear, dramatically improving ride quality and handling composure. Tires are Continental Conti Attack for maximum grip. The GSXR wheel swap rounds out the performance upgrades with a forged wheel package suited to the power on offer.

Performance

The XJR1300's 1390cc air-cooled inline-four with the Dynojet Stage 3 carburetor upgrade delivers sharper throttle response and increased mid-range pull. The Ohlins rear suspension transforms the stock setup into something genuinely planted, while the Continental Conti Attack tires translate the available grip into confident corner entry. This is a machine that rewards commitment.
