2023 ZERO DSR/X - A POWERFUL ELECTRIC ADVENTURE AWAITS
The 2023 Zero DSR/X is the first true electric adventure motorcycle built from the ground up to compete with big-bore ADV bikes on dirt tracks and tarmac alike. Zero Motorcycles has re-engineered every major component: a new steel-trellis chassis, purpose-designed suspension geometry, and a 19-inch front wheel that signals serious off-road intent without compromising on-road composure. The result is a machine that targets riders drawn to the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R or Honda Africa Twin, but who want to eliminate fuel stops entirely.
Engine, Battery, and Performance
Power comes from Zero's Z-Force 75-10X permanent magnet AC motor, producing 100 horsepower and a massive 166 ft-lbs of torque available from zero rpm. The 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery provides a claimed range of 180 city miles, 85 highway miles at a steady 70 mph, or 115 miles combined. An optional Power Tank accessory lifts maximum battery capacity to 20.9 kWh, adding around 20% more range. Top speed is rated at 112 mph, and the curb weight of 544 lbs puts the DSR/X in the same ballpark as comparable combustion ADV bikes.
Charging Options
Charging flexibility is central to the DSR/X ownership proposition. A standard 120-volt household outlet brings the battery from empty to 95% in roughly 10 hours overnight. Connecting to a Level 2 (240-volt) charger cuts that to around two hours. For riders who need to minimise downtime on longer trips, the available Rapid Charger module reduces recharge time to approximately one hour, making multi-day adventures genuinely practical without planning every charge around a specialist fast-charger.
Suspension, Brakes, and Ride Modes
The DSR/X runs a 47 mm Showa fork up front with 7.4 inches of travel and full adjustability, paired with a rear monoshock. Five ride modes (Rain, Eco, Standard, Sport, and Canyon) are dialled in via a full-colour TFT display. Canyon mode delivers the full athletic output of Sport alongside 80% regenerative braking, transforming the DSR/X into a genuinely engaging machine on winding tarmac. Braking hardware comes from J-Juan: dual radial-mounted 4-piston calipers grip 320 mm discs at the front, with a single-piston floating caliper at the rear. Vehicle Hold Mode adds the convenience of a hill-hold function that releases automatically on throttle input.
