Mercedes-AMG is turning the already-sleek CLE into something far more ferocious: a hardcore, “exceptionally extreme” coupe that’s been spotted in first official images carving through Scandinavian snow as the second entry in AMG’s ultra-rare Mythos series. Visually, it “takes the concept several steps further” than the regular car, with AMG promising an “even more uncompromising appearance” that’s intended to read as a “genuine statement on the road”—and the cues are loud and deliberate. The headline piece is the ruddy great big rear wing, a track-style aero signal that frames this as a bewinged, no-nonsense flagship rather than a subtle grand tourer.
On performance, AMG is keeping the key numbers under wraps for now, but the positioning is unmistakably extreme: the car is described as being filled with “obscene amounts of horsepower” and will be “backed by a correspondingly powerful drivetrain and performance to match.” What’s confirmed is the hierarchy it’s aiming to disrupt—the current baddest CLE you can buy is the CLE 53, and there’s no CLE 63 (yet), which leaves this Mythos-badged “SuperCLE” sitting above the existing range in intent and attitude. As a benchmark for what Mythos can deliver, AMG’s first Mythos model—the Purespeed—ran a 4.0-litre biturbo V8 producing 577bhp, underscoring that this program is built to chase genuinely high outputs rather than mild special editions.
The real differentiator, though, is exclusivity: Mythos is explicitly framed as very, very expensive and very, very limited, aimed at collectors rather than broad showroom appeal. The Purespeed provides a stark precedent—only 250 were built, and they cost GBP 800k each—and AMG has already said it will reveal what powers this second Mythos car, how many will be made, and how much it’ll cost “in due course.” Until those final details land, the story is already clear: this is a rare, winged, uncompromising CLE-derived statement piece engineered to be exceptional by output and extreme by posture, with the Mythos badge acting as a guarantee of scarcity and spectacle.
