Amos Fricke Shoots the Ujet

Amos Fricke Shoots the Ujet - TheArsenale

Photographer Amos Fricke, with artistic direction by WILD, captured the Ujet electric scooter in a series of photographs that do justice to one of the most architecturally distinct urban vehicles ever designed. The Ujet, manufactured in Luxembourg, is characterised by its spokeless orbital wheels, asymmetrical composite frame, and a design vocabulary borrowed from architecture rather than automotive precedent.

The Ujet Electric Scooter: Design and Engineering

The Ujet's orbital wheels are its most immediately striking feature. The spokeless hub design gives the illusion of wheels that remain static as the scooter moves, a hallucinating optical effect that Amos Fricke's lens captures brilliantly from multiple angles. Beyond aesthetics, the orbital wheel integrates a suspension system and in-wheel electric motor delivering 5.44 hp and 90 Nm of torque, combined with nano-augmented tires reinforced with Tuball single-wall carbon nanotubes for improved grip in both wet and dry conditions. The frame is built from advanced composite materials typically used in aerospace, keeping the total weight from 43 kg despite the structural demands of a full-size urban scooter.

Amos Fricke's Photographic Approach

Fricke is known for minimalist product photography that extracts the essential geometry of an object. The Ujet is an ideal subject: its clean surfaces, sharp angles, and floating wheel illusion reward the kind of disciplined, high-contrast shooting that Fricke practices. The collaboration with creative agency WILD ensures the final images function both as product photography and as standalone editorial work. Every detail of the Ujet that is easily missed with the naked eye, the orbital wheel bearing, the composite panel transitions, the lighting on the frame's bevelled edges, is rendered precisely in this series.

The Ujet as a TheArsenale Partner

The Ujet is more than a product TheArsenale covers: it is a TheArsenale partner. The scooter earned a Red Dot Design Award and an iF Design Award, validating the same judgement that brought it into TheArsenale's ecosystem. As one of the few electric scooters designed at the intersection of aerospace materials science and architectural design, it occupies a unique position in the urban mobility market.
