ARIEL UNVEILS REVOLUTIONARY ELECTRIC E-NOMAD CONCEPT
The Ariel E-Nomad is an all-electric off-road concept car from British manufacturer Ariel Motor Company that weighs just 896 kg, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, and features a body constructed entirely from flax fibre bio-composite panels that are 9% lighter than carbon fibre and emit 73% less CO2 to manufacture. Who Makes the Ariel E-Nomad?
Ariel Motor Company is a small Somerset-based British manufacturer best known for the Atom, one of the world's lightest and fastest road cars. Their design philosophy has always centred on stripping away mass to maximize the ratio of power to weight. The E-Nomad applies that same ethos to an electric off-road platform, proving that electrification and ultra-lightweight engineering are not mutually exclusive. Flax Fibre Bio-Composite: A Breakthrough in Sustainable Bodywork
The E-Nomad's most significant material innovation is its use of long-strand flax fibre bio-composite panels. Flax plants produce cellulose fibres with excellent tensile strength and stiffness, comparable in structure to carbon fibre. Ariel reinforced the panels with "Power Ribs" made from additional bio-composite natural fibre to maintain structural integrity under off-road stresses.
The result: panels that are 9% lighter than the equivalent carbon fibre item, with a 73% reduction in CO2 emissions during manufacture. The material is also recyclable at end-of-life, a significant advantage over conventional carbon fibre which is difficult to recycle and usually ends up in landfill. This makes the E-Nomad a genuinely novel case for sustainable high-performance vehicle construction, not just a conventional EV with a green marketing claim.

Powertrain: 281 HP, 41 kWh, Cascadia Motion Unit
The electric drivetrain is a Cascadia Motion IDM90 integrated motor, gearbox, and DX inverter drive unit weighing only 92 kg. The motor is a Borg Warner eDM unit spinning to 12,000 rpm, driving the rear wheels through a single-speed transmission with a reduction ratio of 8.28:1. Peak output is 210 kW (281 hp). The battery is a 41 kWh, 450-volt pack that delivers up to 150 miles (240 km) of range. The 0 to 60 mph time of 3.4 seconds matches the performance of the petrol Nomad R, demonstrating that the electric platform loses nothing in the transition.
Off-Road Capability and Production Plans
The E-Nomad retains the original Nomad's all-terrain characteristics through a long-travel suspension setup designed for both on-road performance and genuine off-road use. Instruments and switchgear visible in the concept are designed for wet-weather and muddy conditions, with waterproof controls and a simplified digital display. Ariel has confirmed that a production version based on this concept is planned for 2026, with an anticipated price of approximately 78,000 GBP.
