AUDI ACTIVESPHERE CONCEPT - FIRST LOOK

AUDI ACTIVESPHERE CONCEPT - FIRST LOOK - TheArsenale

The Audi Activesphere concept is the fourth and final entry in Audi's sphere concept series, previewing a sporty electric crossover built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) developed jointly with Porsche. Revealed in January 2023, the Activesphere combines a sleek sportback silhouette with a hidden pickup-style cargo bed, augmented reality cockpit technology, and an adaptive ride height of up to 40 mm, pointing directly at future Audi production models.

What is the Audi Activesphere concept?

The Activesphere is a 4.98-metre-long electric crossover that bridges the gap between an elegant sporty coupe and a capable off-road vehicle. Its "active back" design features a split tailgate where the lower section folds down like a pickup truck and the rear glass rises to reveal a cargo area, giving the vehicle genuine utility without sacrificing its premium aesthetic. Audi designed the concept around active outdoor pursuits, envisioning buyers who move between urban commuting and weekend adventures.

PPE platform: performance and charging figures

The Activesphere rides on the PPE architecture, which will underpin a range of future Audi and Porsche electric vehicles. The concept's battery holds approximately 100 kWh, with dual electric motors producing a combined 325 kW (approximately 436 hp) and 720 Nm of torque. Range is quoted at over 600 km on a full charge, and the 800-volt electrical system supports rapid charging that can add over 300 km of range in just 10 minutes, or bring the battery from 5 to 80 percent in under 25 minutes.

Augmented reality cockpit and autonomous driving

The most striking feature of the Activesphere is its "Audi dimension" augmented reality system. High-tech AR goggles overlay 3D navigation data, terrain topography, and interactive controls onto the real-world view, and can be customised per passenger. The conventional instrument cluster is replaced entirely, and the cockpit controls retract when the car switches to autonomous driving mode. This approach represents Audi's clearest statement yet about where premium interior design is heading for the next decade.

While the Activesphere remains a concept, Audi has confirmed that elements from the sphere series will influence upcoming production vehicles.
