BOLD DESIGN AND INNOVATION SHAPE THE NEW JAGUAR TYPE 00 CONCEPT

BOLD DESIGN AND INNOVATION SHAPE THE NEW JAGUAR TYPE 00 CONCEPT

The Jaguar Type 00 concept is a dramatic two-door electric coupe that signals the complete redesign of the Jaguar brand, previewing a production grand tourer targeting over 1,000 hp, a 430-mile range, and a price well above $150,000. Built around Jaguar's new JEA electric architecture, the Type 00 merges brutalist design inspiration with fashion-house detailing and a cabin that functions more like an art installation than a conventional car interior.

What Is the Jaguar Type 00 Concept?

Jaguar unveiled the Type 00 at a private event in Miami as the centrepiece of a brand reinvention that had been in preparation since 2021, when the company announced it would transition to an all-electric lineup positioned at a higher price and exclusivity level than its previous range. The Type 00 is not a production-ready vehicle but a design concept that establishes the visual and conceptual language for every future Jaguar model. Its name references the idea of a starting point, zero being the beginning of something entirely new rather than a continuation of the existing range.

Design: Brutalist Meets Fashion

The Type 00's exterior takes Jaguar's classic proportions, a long hood, short rear deck, and cab-rearward stance reminiscent of the E-Type, and interprets them through a contemporary brutalist lens. Hard edges replace curves. The signature Jaguar leaper emblem gives way to a minimal lettermark. The car's so-called strikethrough motif appears in the thin horizontal lighting elements front and rear and in the shallow depression that runs along the bodyside. Subtle in isolation, these elements read as a coherent system when the car is viewed in motion. The overall effect is closer to a piece of sculpture or a fashion object than a traditional automobile design exercise.

Interior: A Totem System and Digital Detox

Inside the Type 00, Jaguar rejects nearly every convention of contemporary automotive interior design. Untreated brass trim, a travertine stone plinth supporting the seats, and an absence of conventional screen-based controls create an environment closer to a boutique hotel room than a car cockpit. The headline feature is a physical totem system: passengers select one of three material tiles, brass, travertine, or alabaster, and slot it into a receiver unit that then modifies the cabin ambiance, adjusting lighting colour temperature, sound profile, and scent diffusion accordingly. Hidden touchscreens are present but deliberately recessed, pushing interactions toward physical and ambient controls rather than glass surfaces.

Platform, Performance, and the Production Car

The production vehicle previewed by the Type 00 will be built on the JEA (Jaguar Electrified Architecture) platform and is being developed as a four-door electric grand tourer. Jaguar targets approximately 430 miles of EPA-rated range and a power output exceeding 1,000 hp, with fast-charging capability delivering around 200 miles in 15 minutes from a DC fast charger. The car will use a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, granting access to the Tesla Supercharger network. Production start was projected for 2026, with US pricing expected to begin above $150,000. A larger electric SUV and a sedan are also planned on the same platform.
