What Is the Jeep ARTT Concept?
The ARTT was designed specifically for the Wrangler Unlimited and showcased at Overland Expo West, where it captured immediate attention from outdoor enthusiasts and Jeep fans. The concept centers on an inflatable tent, using Dometic's Air Frame inflation technology, that expands from a compact stowed configuration in seconds. The inflatable structure incorporates mesh windows for ventilation and panoramic views of the outdoors, and the design includes a carbon fiber access step for safe entry without damaging the vehicle's roof or interior. A 270-degree awning extends from the base of the tent, providing additional covered outdoor living space without any additional setup complexity.
How the ARTT Integrates With the Wrangler
The ARTT's most distinctive engineering feature is its integration with the Wrangler's removable Freedom Panels. An aperture in the tent floor aligns precisely with the Wrangler's roof panel openings, allowing occupants to move directly from the vehicle's cabin into the tent interior without stepping outside. This makes the ARTT particularly valuable in adverse weather or when maximum shelter is needed quickly. The system attaches directly to the Wrangler's roof without a roof rack, saving weight and maintaining the vehicle's aerodynamic profile on the road. A queen-size mattress fits comfortably inside, sleeping two adults.
Production Potential and Overlanding Context
While Jeep has not confirmed a production timeline for the ARTT, the concept has strong production intent. Stellantis Senior Vice President for Jeep Mike Koval expressed genuine enthusiasm at the Overland Expo reveal, and the integrated approach addresses a real gap in the overlanding accessories market. Traditional rooftop tents require third-party racks, add weight, and compromise aerodynamics. The ARTT resolves all three issues in a single factory-engineered system. According to New Atlas, the ARTT is one of the most thoughtfully integrated rooftop camping solutions demonstrated on a production vehicle. Gear Junkie noted that the carbon fiber construction and direct-to-hardtop attachment make it a compelling candidate for a production accessory.
