HONDA’S N-ONE E: A COMPACT ELECTRIC MARVEL FOR CITY LIVING
Honda's N-One e is an all-electric kei car launched in Japan in September 2025 that brings the brand's beloved retro-inspired design into the battery-electric era. Priced from approximately $18,300 (2,699,400 yen), it offers a 29.6-kWh battery with a 295 km (183 miles) WLTC range, seating for four adults, and a suite of advanced safety technologies, making it one of the most compelling compact urban EVs currently on sale.
Design: Retro Lines, Modern Materials
The N-One e draws its proportions and rounded exterior surfaces directly from Honda's 1960s N360 kei car, but updates the formula with eco-conscious materials throughout: plant-based bio-resin trim panels and carpets made from recycled plastics are standard. The floor-mounted battery pack keeps the battery mass low without intruding on interior space, allowing four adults to sit comfortably. Foldable rear seats expand cargo capacity when needed. Two trim variants are offered: the e:G, which prioritises value, and the premium e:L, which adds a 9-inch Honda Connect infotainment touchscreen, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and aluminium wheels.
Powertrain and Range
A single electric motor produces 47 kW (approximately 64 hp) and 162 Nm of torque, consistent with Japan's kei car regulations. The 29.3-kWh usable battery supports DC fast charging to 80% in approximately 30 minutes at 50 kW, while the 6 kW onboard AC charger fills the pack in around 4.5 hours. Honda's single-pedal driving mode allows the driver to accelerate, decelerate, and bring the car to a complete stop using the throttle pedal alone, which reduces brake wear and simplifies stop-and-go urban driving. Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) bidirectional charging functionality, delivering up to 1.5 kW to external devices, is also included.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Honda's Sensing suite is fitted as standard across both trim levels. It covers adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and traffic jam assist. For a vehicle in the kei car segment, this is a comprehensive package that places the N-One e among the better-equipped city cars currently available in Japan.
Is the N-One e Coming to Europe?
Honda has not officially confirmed European availability for the N-One e, but an Auto Express report from July 2025 indicated that a closely related electric model will reach the UK and select European markets in 2026.
