REDISCOVERING THE JAGUAR LEGACY WITH THE TWR SUPERCAT
The TWR Supercat is the most significant Jaguar-derived supercar in decades: a 660 hp, supercharged V12 restomod of the Jaguar XJS, built by Fergus Walkinshaw's revived TWR operation in a strictly limited run of 88 units. Priced from £270,000 including VAT, it is a full commission exercise in which each of the 88 buyers receives a personalised, co-developed car that honours the XJS's proportions while delivering performance the original never approached.
What Is the TWR Supercat?
TWR, Tom Walkinshaw Racing, was the British motorsport operation behind Jaguar's most celebrated racing victories, including the 1988 Le Mans 24 Hours win with the XJR-9. The number 88 chosen for the Supercat's production run is a direct reference to that victory. Fergus Walkinshaw, son of TWR founder Tom Walkinshaw, relaunched the brand with the Supercat as its first product: a car that carries the racing heritage of the XJR-9 and XJ220 era into a road-legal grand tourer derived from the XJS.
The design was brought to life by artist and automotive visualiser Khyzyl Saleem, also known as TheKyza, whose work merges the classic proportions of the XJS with the sharper, more muscular language of modern super-GTs. The result is a body that is recognisably descended from the original while being wholly contemporary in execution.
660 HP V12 and Carbon Fibre Construction
The Supercat is built around an original Jaguar XJS structure, reinforced with an integrated tubular steel framework. The body is entirely replaced with lightweight carbon fibre panels, reducing the overall weight by 9.3% compared to the stock XJS, bringing the kerb weight to 1,605 kg. Despite the carbon construction, the car retains the long, flowing GT silhouette that made the XJS an automotive icon of its era.
Power comes from a TWR-developed supercharged 5.6-litre V12 producing 660 hp and 730 Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. The manual transmission is a deliberate choice that preserves the analogue character of the original while the supercharged V12 delivers performance in an entirely different class. Five driving modes, programmable traction control, and launch control allow the car's dynamics to be tuned to road or track conditions, while carbon ceramic disc brakes are available as an option.
Interior and Grand Touring Credentials
The Supercat's rear seats have been replaced with an expanded luggage area, reinforcing its role as a focused grand tourer rather than a family car. The overhauled cabin integrates a fully digital multimedia interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto alongside materials and trim details that reference classic Jaguar interiors. Double wishbone suspension with an active dynamic damping system provides the ride composure required for extended continental journeys at speed.
