REVOLUTIONIZING URBAN DELIVERIES WITH THE RENAULT ESTAFETTE CONCEPT
The Renault Estafette Concept is a 100% electric urban delivery van developed in partnership with Flexis, a joint venture between Renault Group, Volvo Group, and CMA CGM Group. Debuted 65 years after the original Estafette van first appeared, this modern concept reimagines the classic format for last-mile logistics in cities, combining a software-defined vehicle platform with practical cargo design and a production launch planned for Renault's Sandouville plant in 2026.
Design: Compact Enough for a Parking Space, Spacious Enough to Stand In
The Renault Estafette Concept measures 4.87 metres in length, making it no larger than a standard car footprint in urban environments. Despite that compact length, the interior height of 2.60 metres allows delivery drivers to stand fully upright inside. Width comes in at 1.92 metres, narrower than the current Trafic, which helps with city manoeuvring.
The visual identity updates the original Estafette's twin round headlamps into a modern backlit front grille, finished in a two-tone scheme of Helium Grey for the cab and Tropic Acid Yellow Satin for the roof. Sliding side doors and an automatic rear exit step make repeated entry and exit far less punishing during a full delivery shift.
Technology: Software-Defined Vehicle Platform and Smart Cargo
The Estafette Concept runs on Flexis's FlexEVan software-defined vehicle (SDV) architecture. This allows real-time over-the-air updates and predictive maintenance, with Renault claiming operating cost reductions of up to 30 percent compared to conventional vans. The cockpit integrates a 7-inch driver screen, a 12-inch multimedia display, and two 10-inch vertical screens showing live rear-camera feeds to replace conventional mirrors.
Inside the cargo area, four tilting shelves are accessible exclusively through the sliding side door. A rear roll-up door provides bulk access while synchronized destination addressing routes drivers automatically, reducing time between stops. The ergonomic driver seat folds flat, and a retractable folding second seat accommodates a passenger or co-worker.
Production: Sandouville Plant, 2026 Launch
Unlike many electric van concepts that remain design exercises, the Estafette Concept points directly toward production. The first Flexis electric vans are targeted to roll off the line at the Sandouville plant in Normandy, France in 2026. The platform is designed to underpin multiple body configurations, meaning the Estafette format sits within a broader commercial EV family that also includes longer and shorter variants.
The 65-year gap between the original Estafette and this concept is not coincidence. Renault chose the name to anchor the vehicle in a legacy of urban practicality while emphasising the scale of the shift from combustion to electric in the commercial vehicle segment.
