What is the SCG Baja Boot?
Back in 2010, James Glickenhaus purchased Steven McQueen's Baja Boot. For those of you who are unfamiliar, the original Baja Boot is a one off vehicle built by Hurst in only 26 days. They put together a bunch of GM parts and created a beast of a vehicle to conquer the rough terrain of Mexico. Despite failing its first two race debuts, McQueen backed it up and it went on to win the Baja 500 of 1969. Inspired by this rugged machine, James Glickenhaus presented his concept for a brand new Baja Boot, a tribute that pays homage to the original while pushing modern off-road engineering forward.
How much does the SCG Boot cost?
When SCG first revealed the concept, two-door Baja Boots were quoted at $250,000 and four-door versions at $275,000. As the project matured into a full production vehicle, pricing settled around $258,000 for the two-door and from $287,500 for the four-door, with optional armor packages available for clients who want extra protection. SCG already lined up the manufacturers to make the components and aimed the truck squarely at the Baja 1000 alongside the world's biggest manufacturers.
What engine and performance does the SCG Boot have?
The production Boot is powered by a supercharged LT4 6.2 liter V8 sourced from Chevrolet, producing roughly 650 hp to make sure it can handle every challenge thrown its way. It rides on 18 inches of suspension travel from Fox internal bypass shocks, 17-inch Method wheels wrapped in 37-inch BFGoodrich tires, and carries a 30-gallon fuel tank for serious range. Despite its racing roots, the Boot is fully street legal and includes creature comforts like HVAC, power windows and a backup camera. An "Expedition" version was also planned, aiming to set world records for altitude and distance, and SCG even extended an official invite to all major SUV manufacturers to join the adventure.
