What is the Skyryse One helicopter?
The Skyryse One is a four-passenger helicopter developed from the Robinson R66 platform and enhanced with Skyryse's proprietary fly-by-wire technology. Unlike a conventional helicopter cockpit, where dozens of switches, collective levers, and pedal inputs demand years of coordination training, the Skyryse One replaces that complexity with electronic controls and an intelligent assistance system that continuously monitors pilot inputs, aircraft status, and environmental conditions. The result is a helicopter that lowers the barrier to entry for private aviation without compromising safety margins.
How does SkyOS work?
SkyOS is at the core of the Skyryse One's appeal. The system is not a full autopilot, but it acts as an intelligent co-pilot that continuously analyses inputs and keeps the aircraft within safe flight parameters. Key features include a Hover Assist mode that maintains stable, stationary flight, and fully automated procedures for engine start-up, takeoff, and landing sequences. In the event of engine power failure, SkyOS automatically triggers autorotation, managing the most critical phase of an emergency landing while still allowing the pilot to retain manual control. The Rolls-Royce RR300 turbine engine delivers 300 shaft horsepower, derated to 270 SHP for takeoff, with a cruise speed of approximately 110 knots.
Who is the Skyryse One for?
Skyryse is targeting both private individuals and commercial operators who want the freedom of a personal helicopter without the years of intensive training that conventional rotorcraft demand. Airplane-licensed pilots can qualify for the Skyryse One with just 20 hours of type-specific training, a fraction of what a conventional helicopter license requires. The aircraft carries at least four passengers with a full fuel load, making it practical for short business trips, island hopping, or estate-to-city commutes. Skyryse is currently accepting $2,500 deposits toward the $1.8 million introductory price ahead of airworthiness certification and first deliveries.
