SMART #5 IS REDEFINING MID-SIZE SUV WITH CUTTING-EDGE INNOVATION
The Smart #5 is a mid-size electric SUV jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and Geely under the Smart Automobile brand, stretching the brand into an entirely new market segment with 800-volt architecture, up to 637 hp, and a range of up to 590 km on the WLTP cycle. At 4.70 metres long, it is the largest and most technologically ambitious Smart ever built.
What Is the Smart #5?
Smart Automobile is a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz Group and Geely Holding. The #5 is the brand's first proper mid-size SUV, positioned above the #1 and #3 crossovers and aimed at a premium-minded buyer who wants the technology depth of a Chinese EV combined with the brand recognition of the Mercedes-Geely partnership. It arrives in Europe in 2025, with pricing starting at approximately 39,800 GBP for the base Pro model.

Design: Frameless Doors, Halo Roof, Adventure Package
The Smart #5 exterior carries the brand's characteristic design cues into a larger body: frameless door glass, a panoramic halo roof, short front and rear overhangs, dual-tone mirrors, and floating wheel caps. The Adventurers' Collection package adds a roof light bar, an electric trailer hitch, and underbody protection, extending the SUV's credibility into genuine outdoor use. The body design maintains a clean aerodynamic profile despite the increased dimensions, with Smart citing the frameless door design as contributing both to visual lightness and reduced wind noise at speed.

Technology: AMD Chip, 25.6-Inch AR HUD, Sennheiser Audio
The interior is built around an intelligent cockpit powered by an AMD V2000 processor. The standout feature is a 25.6-inch Augmented Reality Head-up Display, one of the largest AR HUD systems deployed in a production vehicle, which projects navigation, speed, and safety data onto the windscreen in a manner that overlays the real road ahead. AI voice assistance controls vehicle functions, navigation, and media. Zero-gravity front seats with a full range of adjustment settings and heating, ventilation, and massage functions give the cabin a premium feel. Entertainment is handled by a Sennheiser audio system developed specifically for the #5's acoustic space.
Battery, Range, and Charging
The Smart #5 is available in multiple battery configurations. The flagship 100 kWh battery runs on an 800-volt architecture, enabling peak DC charging at up to 400 kW under optimal conditions. From 10% to 80% charge takes approximately 18 minutes. Rear-wheel-drive variants with this battery achieve up to 590 km of WLTP range; all-wheel-drive versions return 540 km. The smaller 76 kWh Pro model uses a 400-volt system with 150 kW DC charging and achieves 465 km of WLTP range. Multiple off-road drive modes (Adaptive, Sand, Rock) come standard, extending the #5's terrain capability beyond conventional tarmac driving.
Performance Variants
The base Pro delivers 340 hp and a 0 to 62 mph time under seven seconds. The Pulse trim upgrades to 587 hp and reaches 62 mph in 4.9 seconds. The Brabus variant, produced in partnership with the tuning house, offers 637 hp and a 3.8-second 0 to 62 mph time, making it one of the fastest SUVs in its price bracket. European pricing for the Brabus is anticipated around 60,900 euros. For those looking to explore the most innovative electric vehicles on the market, the TheArsenale electric vehicles collection and the full cars collection feature some of the world's most forward-thinking machines, including the custom lifted Lamborghini Urus and the Rezvani Arsenal high-performance SUV.
