The Tarform Raye is a high-performance all-electric personal watercraft (PWC) that brings the same design ambition and sustainable engineering philosophy behind the Tarform Luna motorcycle to the water. Inspired by the manta ray and built from plant-based composite materials, the Raye targets a top speed of 50 mph with up to two hours of ride time per charge.

 

Design Inspired by the Manta Ray

Tarform built the Raye using biomimicry as the central design principle. The manta ray, a creature that has navigated the oceans for over 120 million years, provided the template for the Raye's flowing hull lines, wide stance, and swept body panels. The result is a PWC that looks unlike any conventional jet ski on the market. Bodywork is offered in two material options: recycled carbon fiber, or Tarform's proprietary biodegradable flax seed weave-reinforced composite, the same material used on the Luna electric motorcycle.

Electric Waterjet Propulsion: Performance Specs

The Raye is powered by an electric waterjet propulsion system that delivers instant torque and smooth, linear acceleration. Two configurations are available: a 52.2 kW (70 hp) base model with one hour of ride time, and an 89.5 kW (120 hp) model with two hours of autonomy per charge. Both variants reach a top speed of approximately 43 knots (50 mph). Charging is compatible with Level 1 and Level 2 infrastructure, making it viable for most marinas and home docks. Starting price is $68,000.

Shared Technology Platform with the Tarform Luna

Tarform designed the Raye to share the same connected technology platform as the Tarform Luna electric motorcycle. This means over-the-air software updates, machine learning that adapts to individual riding behaviour, real-time battery health and status monitoring, and a sensor array that enables predictive maintenance. Riders control the Raye via handlebars with an integrated digital display running Tarform's proprietary operating system. The vehicle accommodates two riders.

Why the Raye Matters for Electric Watercraft

Personal watercraft is a category that has been slow to electrify. Most PWC manufacturers have stayed with combustion engines, despite obvious advantages of electric propulsion on water: near-silent operation, instant torque, no fuel smell, and no exhaust in the water. The Raye addresses all of these while adding a sustainability argument through its bio-composite bodywork. Electrek covered the Raye's debut as one of the most complete electric PWC concepts revealed to date. Robb Report's review of the Raye highlighted its combination of performance and sustainable materials as a genuine market differentiator.

Customisation and Personalization

Like the Luna, the Raye is designed to be personal. Buyers can specify unique colourways, material finishes, and configuration choices to distinguish their machine. This bespoke approach, combined with the sustainable materials story, positions the Raye firmly in the premium segment of the emerging electric watercraft market.
