The Twisted Electric Land Rover Defender 90, designated the NAS-E, is a ground-up electric conversion of the classic Defender body that keeps everything enthusiasts love about the original: four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, and a three-seat front bench, while replacing the combustion engine with a direct-drive electric motor producing 214 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Only 30 units will ever be built, making this one of the rarest electric off-road vehicles available.
Twisted NAS-E: Full Electric Conversion Specifications
Twisted Automotive, long regarded as the benchmark for high-quality Defender builds, built the NAS-E entirely from scratch. The 60 kWh battery pack delivers a 200-mile range, and the 22 kW onboard charger supports fast-charging for practical usability. Four-wheel drive and the iconic two-speed transfer case are retained in full, so the NAS-E remains a genuine off-road vehicle rather than a lifestyle electric SUV. A more powerful NAS-E Plus variant raises output to 320 hp and 309 lb-ft for buyers who want additional performance. Pricing starts from $185,000 for the standard NAS-E and from $210,000 for the Plus.
Bespoke Components and Interior
In typical Twisted fashion, the NAS-E uses in-house developed components throughout: Twisted Sport alloy wheels, uprated performance brakes with six-piston calipers, a full NAS roll cage, custom-valved dampers, ABS, and traction control. The Bimini hood is a signature detail that sets the soft-top silhouette against the classic Defender template. Inside, the cabin receives a full luxury treatment including supple upholstery and the celebrated three-place front bench seat, a configuration that has all but disappeared from modern SUVs. The combination of bespoke engineering and hand-finished details places the NAS-E closer to a coach-built vehicle than a standard conversion.
Limited Production and Colour Options
Twisted will produce exactly 30 NAS-E units, split evenly across three colours: Malibu Yellow, Tahoe Blue, and Yosemite Green, all chosen as tributes to California's landscapes. The vehicle is offered exclusively in the United States. Future plans include offering the electric drivetrain in additional Defender body styles, but production numbers will remain tightly controlled to preserve exclusivity.
