In a bold step toward the future of urban mobility, Verne, a robotaxi company founded by Rimac Group CEO Mate Rimac, Verne CEO Marko Pejković, and Rimac Nevera designer Adriano Mudri, is set to revolutionize the ride-hailing industry with its unique autonomous vehicle. Named in honor of the renowned science fiction author Jules Verne, the company is gearing up to launch its services in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2026. The cars, leveraging advanced autonomous driving technology from partner Mobileye, are distinguished by a wedge-shaped hatchback design and expansive glass extending to the front bumpers, creating a futuristic and streamlined appearance.
Verne’s autonomous vehicles are designed with the rider's experience at the forefront. Each car seats only two passengers, a deliberate choice guided by data showing that 90% of urban rides involve just one or two individuals. Inside, passengers will find ample legroom, a massive central screen, and an innovative circular sunroof dubbed the "Halo ring." Additional convenience is provided by sliding doors for easy entry and exit. The ride experience is further customized through a smartphone app, allowing passengers to personalize their journey before the car arrives. This approach not only enhances comfort but also offers a sense of ownership, even though the cars are not for individual purchase.
Anticipation for Verne's rollout is palpable, with plans to expand beyond Zagreb to other European cities, starting with Germany and the United Kingdom. The company has already secured agreements with 11 cities across the U.K., E.U., and Middle East, with ongoing negotiations involving 30 additional cities worldwide. As urban areas grow increasingly congested and the push for sustainable, efficient transport options intensifies, Verne’s autonomous robotaxi service promises a transformative impact on personal mobility, offering both environmental benefits and an unparalleled user experience.
