The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is a 1,548-horsepower tri-motor electric hypercar that positions the Chinese tech giant as a serious contender in the world's most exclusive performance segment. Unveiled by founder Lei Jun during his Annual Speech, the SU7 Ultra is no mere concept: it has set a Nurburgring Nordschleife lap record for four-door vehicles and has since entered production, redefining what is possible in an electric sedan.

 

What Makes the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Different?

Xiaomi built its reputation on consumer electronics, which makes the SU7 Ultra an audacious entry into the hypercar world. The vehicle is powered by three of the company's proprietary HyperEngine motors arranged in a dual-rear, single-front all-wheel-drive layout. The flagship unit, the HyperEngine V8s, spins to 27,200 rpm and alone produces 578 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a second V8s at the rear and a V6s at the front axle, the combined output reaches 1,548 hp, surpassing many established hypercars including the Bugatti Chiron on raw power figures.

Performance: 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 Seconds

The SU7 Ultra accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 seconds, reaches 200 km/h in 5.86 seconds, and covers a standing quarter-mile in 9.23 seconds. Top speed is rated at 350 km/h. The braking system is equally serious, using AP Racing high-performance calipers combined with motor reverse braking to generate deceleration forces exceeding 2.36G.

Despite weighing just over 4,000 lbs, the SU7 Ultra manages this performance through a full carbon fiber body, a massive rear wing, front aerodynamic vents, and active downforce management. The aerodynamic package was developed with track use in mind, which explains the Nurburgring focus: the SU7 Ultra prototype lapped the Nordschleife in 6 minutes 46.874 seconds, the fastest time ever recorded by a production four-door vehicle.

Battery Technology: Full Charge in Under 12 Minutes

The energy storage system is CATL's Qilin 2.0, a high-power pack using LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry. LFP is typically associated with lower energy density, but the Qilin 2.0 achieves rapid charging that makes it viable for performance use, reaching a full charge from empty in under 12 minutes. This is a significant engineering feat: at this power level, keeping charge times competitive with fast-fill combustion vehicles has long been a barrier to EV adoption in the hypercar space.

From Prototype to Production

When first revealed, the SU7 Ultra carried no confirmed road certification. In October 2024, Xiaomi unveiled the mass-production version at a dedicated launch event and opened pre-orders at 814,900 yuan (approximately $114,200 USD). This price positions it below many established supercars while delivering performance figures that rival or exceed them, a value proposition unique in the segment.
