The Honda CB550F SDNO is a custom cafe racer by NCT Motorcycles built on a clean 1976 Honda CB550 Four, stripped to its essentials and rebuilt with a handmade seat and hump, keyless ignition, Motogadget electronics, and a black and red livery that makes it one of the most cohesive builds NCT has produced.

The Concept

NCT Motorcycles is an Austrian custom workshop that treats the Honda CB-series with particular respect: these are machines that were already close to right when they left the factory, and the builder's job is to take them further without breaking what works. The CB550 Four is a four-cylinder inline engine from the mid-1970s with a sound and a mechanical character that no modern bike replicates. SDNO uses that foundation as a starting point for a build that is tighter, lower, and more visually unified than the original, without erasing the history embedded in the engine cases and the frame geometry. Manuel handled the paintwork. Kurt handled the electronics. The result is a motorcycle that two people cared about enough to do properly.

The Build

The rear section was completely reworked. A handmade seat and hump, among the most distinctive elements of the build, were fabricated in-house and finished to match the black and red colour scheme Manuel applied to the tank. The frame and rims were powder coated black. A new set of Avon Road Rider tyres were fitted. Red exhaust tape ties the mechanical sections into the overall palette. On the electronics side, Kurt from NCT installed a Motogadget M-Unit wiring system and a lithium battery concealed inside the engine space. Keyless Go ignition and an alarm system replace the original switch gear. The handlebars are low cafe racer units with an m-switch system integrated into the grips. A Motogadget speedometer reads speed and vital functions. The rear light is incorporated into a frame loop that keeps the tail clean. The front end runs a smaller headlight and minimal turn signals, with the front indicators integrated into the handlebar ends for an uncluttered look.
