Nmoto Nostalgia 001 - Custom BMW Motorcycle

The Nmoto Nostalgia 001 is the first-ever unit of a hand-built custom BMW motorcycle that resurrects the art-deco silhouette of the 1934 BMW R7 concept on a 2018 BMW R nineT Pure platform, with over 150 handmade parts, a full aluminium body, and 110 hp at 7,750 rpm.

The Story

The 1934 BMW R7 was conceived as a design study, never produced, and never forgotten. Its streamlined art-deco bodywork represented a vision of motorcycling that BMW's production constraints of the era could not realise. Nearly 85 years later, Nmoto set out to build what BMW never could: a road-going motorcycle that captured the R7's visual language with the mechanical integrity of a modern powertrain. Nostalgia 001 is the first unit of that project, shown at Pebble Beach 2019, BMW Motorrad Days 2019, and Wheels and Waves 2019, where it received critical acclaim from the motorcycle and collector communities alike.

The Build

The foundation is a 2018 BMW R nineT Pure, chosen for its air-cooled 1,170cc flat-twin engine and its modular frame architecture. Nmoto fabricated over 150 individual handmade parts to transform the donor bike into the Nostalgia, including a full aluminium body shaped entirely by hand to replicate the flowing curves of the R7 concept. The fuel tank is aluminium. The exhaust is chrome. The seat height is adjustable between 29 and 32 inches via a mechanism integrated into the custom subframe. Brembo calipers handle braking, and spoked wheels reinforce the vintage visual reference. A multifunction display and on-board computer sit behind the period-inspired instrument cluster, providing modern rider information without compromising the aesthetic.

Performance

The BMW flat-twin engine displaces 1,170cc and produces 110 hp at 7,750 rpm with 116 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. The 6-speed transmission, ABS, and adjustable rear suspension carry over from the R nineT Pure platform, providing a thoroughly contemporary riding experience beneath the vintage exterior. Top speed is 140 mph. The Nostalgia 001 has covered 972 miles under a single previous owner and remains in the condition expected of a machine treated as the collectible it is.
