Sandwichbikes Van Gogh - Automatic 2 Speed

The Sandwichbikes Van Gogh automatic 2 speed is a flat-pack wooden bicycle that ships to your door as a self-assembly kit, with a limited-edition Van Gogh graphic wrapped around a beech plywood frame.

The Concept

Sandwichbikes was born from a simple provocation: build a bike that lives inside a flat-pack box and gets delivered like furniture. The Van Gogh edition takes that idea and turns it into art, releasing five different graphic designs, each one inspired by a famous Van Gogh painting. The whole kit ships in one small carton with the tools included, so assembly starts the moment the box arrives.

What Makes It

The frame is built from beech plywood, PEFC-approved and finished with an all-weather coating so wet commutes do not damage the material. Components are chosen for real daily use: Schwalbe Big Apple 26 inch tires for comfort over cobbles, a Selle Royal Shadow saddle, KMC stainless steel chain, and Exal XL25 rims on stainless spokes. The bike is tested to EN 14764 and compatible with ISO 4210.

The Ride

The heart of this build is a SRAM automatic 2-speed hub, which shifts on its own based on wheel speed, so the rider never has to think about gears. A coaster brake handles the rear, keeping the drivetrain and handlebar visually clean. As Sandwichbikes puts it: if you can make a sandwich, you can build a Sandwichbike.
