The Sandwichbikes Van Gogh Single Speed is a wooden-framed city bike inspired by Vincent van Gogh's paintings, delivered flat-packed and built at home in about an hour.

 

The Concept

Born in the Netherlands, Sandwichbikes takes its name from the way its frame is layered together like a sandwich: two shells of high-grade plywood bolted around structural tubes. The Van Gogh edition wraps that frame in five artworks drawn from the master's own canvases, turning a daily commuter into a limited edition tribute. Sandwichbikes is an award-winning brand celebrated for pushing bicycle design toward sustainability, craft, and open-crate delivery.

The Build

The frame is made of Beech Plywood, PEFC approved and all-weather coated so rain, snow, and city grit stay off the wood. Big Apple 26 inch tires from Schwalbe soak up cobblestones, a Selle Royal Shadow saddle keeps long rides comfortable, and a KMC stainless steel chain resists corrosion. Every component is chosen for endurance, so this wooden bicycle holds up as a real transport tool, not a display piece.

The Ride

The bike arrives in a compact flat-pack with all tools included, ready for self-assembly at your kitchen table. Once built, the single speed drivetrain and coaster rear brake keep the ride quiet, smooth, and mechanically simple. It is a statement machine for city streets, art lovers, and anyone who wants a bicycle that stands out at the rack.
