The Williams FW17 1995 showcar is an original Renault-powered Formula 1 chassis from the season Damon Hill fought Michael Schumacher for the World Championship. A genuine period car, never raced, delivered with a Damon Hill race suit and a signed Bell helmet replica.
The Story
The FW17 was Williams' 1995 challenger, designed by Patrick Head and Adrian Newey and raced by Damon Hill and David Coulthard. It won five Grands Prix that season and took the team to second in the Constructors' Championship. This particular car left the factory as a factory-built showcar, used for promotional events and displays, and has never turned a wheel in anger, which is exactly what makes it a museum-grade collectible today.
Performance
Under the sculpted engine cover sits the Renault RS7, a 3.0-liter V10 that produced more than 700hp at 15,600rpm in racing trim. Power was fed through Williams' transverse six-speed semi-automatic gearbox to the rear wheels. Every element, from the carbon monocoque to the aerodynamics package, mirrors the specification of the cars driven by Hill and Coulthard during the 1995 season.
