What Is the VonMercier Arosa Hovercraft?
VonMercier is an American company that developed the Arosa as a high-performance personal hovercraft powered entirely by electric motors. The vehicle sits 16 feet (4.9 m) long and rides on an air cushion generated by three electric motors producing a combined 240 hp (178 kW). Its low-slung, sports-car-inspired body makes it one of the most visually distinctive personal transportation vehicles ever produced.
Where Can the Arosa Go?
The defining characteristic of a hovercraft is its ability to traverse surfaces that stop conventional boats and off-road vehicles alike. The Arosa operates over water, sand, grass, marshland, ice and snow, navigating through shallow water and rough terrain that neither boats nor helicopters can access economically. This makes it useful not only for recreational thrills but also for reaching remote coastal areas, marshes or frozen terrain where no other personal vehicle can go.
Electric Powertrain and Range
VonMercier offers the Arosa in two battery configurations: 18 kWh for a range of up to 40 miles (65 km), and 36 kWh for up to 80 miles (130 km) per charge. The electric powertrain produces zero direct emissions and runs significantly quieter than a conventional combustion-powered hovercraft, which matters both for the environment and for wildlife-sensitive terrain. Charging is compatible with standard electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Cruising speed sits at 20 mph, with the vehicle capable of reaching 50 mph in performance conditions.
Safety and Limited Production
The Arosa uses redundant on-board systems, real-time flight path adjustment logic, and a durable lightweight construction to maintain stability across all terrain types. VonMercier announced a production run of 25 units for 2023, requiring a deposit to reserve a build slot with full customisation options confirmed post-deposit.
