Feadship Concept C is a 75-metre superyacht concept unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024, created to celebrate the Dutch shipyard's Diamond Anniversary. Named for its diamond-inspired design motifs and for 'C' as the chemical symbol of carbon, the concept integrates methanol fuel cells, wave-actuated energy fins, and a faceted glass atrium into a cohesive vision of where luxury superyacht design is heading in the next decade.
The Diamond Design Language and Frits de Voogt's Legacy
The concept's aesthetic roots are double: a tribute to Feadship's 75-year history and a direct visual exploration of diamond geometry. Feadship's design team visited the Amsterdam cutting workshop of Gassan Diamonds to study how facets draw and magnify light within a stone. That research translates into the Concept C's architecture through faceted glass panels, diamond-cut details on balustrades, and bespoke furnishings carrying the same geometric vocabulary throughout.
The flared bow pays deliberate homage to the design work of the late Frits de Voogt, Feadship's legendary naval architect, grounding the forward-looking concept in a lineage of Dutch shipbuilding craftsmanship.
Propulsion: Methanol Fuel Cells, Wave Fins, and a DC Electrical Grid
The Feadship Concept C is fully electrically propelled, drawing power from an onboard DC electrical grid fed by methanol fuel cells. This system is 30 percent more efficient than a conventional dual-shaft diesel setup and produces no harmful emissions. At fuel-cell-only cruising speed of 14 knots, the methanol system runs independently. Battery reserves integrate into the grid for peak demand, pushing top speed to 17 knots.
A further innovation is the wave-actuated fins mounted below the waterline. These harvest energy from the vessel's own pitch motion in open sea conditions, meeting approximately one third of the yacht's total energy needs. The same fins dampen pitch movement, improving onboard comfort in chop.
Inline contra-rotating propellers replace the standard twin-shaft arrangement, contributing to the overall efficiency gain while reducing underwater mechanical noise, relevant for long ocean passages and anchorage experiences.
Interior: The Glazed Atrium as a Light-Filled Gallery
Concept C eliminates conventional corridor layouts through a central glazed atrium that draws natural light across all decks. A floating staircase rises through this void. A platform-style lift can rise beyond the main superstructure to become a private crow's nest, offering unobstructed 360-degree views at sea or in port.
The faceted glass panels around the atrium mirror the diamond-cut motif established on the exterior, creating continuity between outside and inside. The result is what Feadship describes as an "unprecedentedly fluid living space" where the boundary between interior luxury and the open ocean dissolves.
Concept or Blueprint? Feadship's Position on Buildability
Feadship presented Concept C as a showcase of technically feasible ideas rather than a speculative rendering exercise. The shipyard has stated that all systems, including the methanol fuel cells, wave fin energy harvesting, and DC grid architecture, are available technologies that could be incorporated into a fully custom commission. A prospective owner with the ambition and resources to specify a 75-metre one-off could request any or all of Concept C's innovations as part of a bespoke build.
