FUTURISTIC POLESTAR 1:1 CONCEPT DESIGN
The Polestar 1:1 concept car is a futuristic single-seat electric speedster designed by Jeroen Claus, co-founder of VoyagerCo. Created for Polestar's 2022 Design Contest, the 1:1 imagines what Polestar's first dedicated performance sports car could look like as the brand transitions to an all-electric lineup, applying the Swedish marque's minimalist design philosophy to an extreme, track-focused package.
1 kW Per 1 kg: The Engineering Vision
The defining specification of the Polestar 1:1 concept is its name: a power-to-weight ratio of exactly one kilowatt per kilogram. This target, achievable with modern electric drivetrains and advanced lightweight materials, would place the 1:1 among the most performance-dense single-seaters ever conceived. The all-wheel-drive electric powertrain delivers that ratio through multiple motors, providing immediate torque to all four corners. The concept also features active aero surfaces, a series of flexible body panels that adjust the balance between aerodynamic efficiency and mechanical downforce depending on driving conditions.
Flax Fibre Body and Helmet HUD Integration
Structural lightness in the 1:1 comes from a flax fibre composite body, a sustainable alternative to traditional carbon fibre that reduces both weight and environmental impact during manufacturing. The silver-white exterior deliberately suppresses visual noise, letting the form and proportions communicate the car's intent. There is no windshield and no roof: the 1:1 is a pure open-air barchetta with truncated side panels. The technology highlight is the widescreen dashboard that feeds directly into a helmet-mounted HUD worn by the driver, removing all conventional instrument clusters from the cockpit and merging car and driver into a unified sensory system. According to Designboom's original concept coverage, the HUD integration is central to Claus's philosophy of immersive, driver-centric performance.
Polestar Design Language in Extreme Form
Polestar's production vehicles are defined by clean Scandinavian lines, absence of ornament and a focus on material honesty. The 1:1 extends those principles to their logical extreme: the body has no unnecessary surfaces, every aerodynamic element is functional, and the driver is exposed directly to the environment rather than insulated from it. Autoevolution's analysis described the concept as a credible performance direction for Polestar, noting that the brand's engineering credibility, backed by Geely and Volvo's development resources, makes the 1:1's ambitions less far-fetched than they might appear from an independent designer.
