The Bandit9 Monaco is a limited-production single-seat electric race car from Hong Kong-based Bandit9, combining a Tesla Model S drivetrain with a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and the visual language of 1950s Formula 1 cars.
From custom motorcycles to four wheels
Bandit9 built its reputation on bespoke motorcycle commissions, producing hand-crafted bikes with a cinematic quality and an aesthetic rooted in vintage racing. The Monaco represents the brand's expansion into the four-wheeled segment, applying the same visual discipline to an entirely different type of vehicle. It is not a conventional sports car. It is a single-seat, open-cockpit electric race car designed for track days and private ownership, limited to nine examples and priced from $150,000.
Design: the language of 1950s and 1960s Formula 1
The Monaco's silhouette is intentionally evocative of the grand prix cars from the Fangio era: a long, tapered nose, exposed driver position, rear-mounted powertrain and wide-set aero wheels. The carbon fiber monocoque is modular, meaning it can be configured with additional aerodynamic elements or stripped to the minimum for the lightest possible setup. The bodywork is resolved in smooth, uninterrupted surfaces with no visible seams or extraneous details. Together with Forcite, Bandit9 also developed a smart helmet featuring a built-in camera, microphone and speaker system that connects directly to pit engineers.
Performance: Tesla drivetrain in a bespoke chassis
The Monaco uses the same motor and battery pack as the Tesla Model S. Bandit9 claims a 0-60 time of 2.7 seconds, a top speed of 260 km/h and an estimated driving range of 250 miles from the 536 hp unit. The result is a car that delivers genuine hypercar performance numbers in a package that weighs considerably less than any production Tesla, given the carbon fiber construction and absence of passenger amenities.
Availability and the Bandit9 approach
Deliveries were scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2023. Like all Bandit9 vehicles, the Monaco is produced in extremely limited numbers, making each unit a collector-grade object as much as a driver's car. It is the kind of project that defines an emerging category: post-motorcycle, pre-production-car, and entirely its own thing.
