REGENT’S ELECTRIC SEAGLIDER HITS A MILESTONE WITH PASSENGER TEST

REGENT’S ELECTRIC SEAGLIDER HITS A MILESTONE WITH PASSENGER TEST

Regent Craft, a forward-thinking startup from Rhode Island, is transforming the future of coastal travel with its groundbreaking electric seaglider, the Viceroy. Measuring 55 feet in length with a 65-foot wingspan, this seaglider leverages wing-in-ground-effect (WIG) technology to reduce aerodynamic drag by flying low over water surfaces. Engineered to operate in multiple modes, the Viceroy can float on its hull, rise on hydrofoils, or cruise at ultra-low altitudes of 30 to 60 feet above the water. Its versatility allows it to accommodate up to 12 passengers and two crew members or carry loads of up to 3,500 pounds, making it an innovative solution for both passenger transit and cargo transport. With a cruising speed of 180 mph and a projected range of 180 miles, the seaglider promises a faster, greener approach to regional connectivity.

The recent successful test of the full-size prototype marks a significant leap forward for Regent Craft. After years of development and testing smaller-scale designs, the company’s full-scale Viceroy prototype has completed water trials with actual passengers on board. This achievement is backed by rigorous testing of essential systems such as motors, batteries, and advanced control software. Regent Craft has gained certification from the U.S. Coast Guard to operate the prototype, which is expected to lead the path to commercial production. The design is already being explored for multiple use-cases, from ferrying tourists in tropical regions to supporting maritime defense and logistics in collaboration with the U.S. Marine Corps. With over $9 billion in orders secured globally, Regent Craft’s Viceroy seaglider demonstrates a massive market potential for regional transportation innovations.

Looking ahead, Regent Craft plans to construct a substantial manufacturing facility in Rhode Island set to open next year, which will bolster production capacity and develop crew training programs. In addition to its environmental benefits and cost-efficient operations, the seaglider offers a viable alternative to traditional ferries and short-haul flights, reshaping regional mobility. Its ability to merge aviation and maritime advancements into a single, efficient mode of transport underscores its potential as a game-changer in coastal travel. As Regent Craft accelerates its progress, the Viceroy is poised to become a flagship model for sustainable coastal transportation worldwide.
