Ressence TYPE 10: A More Fluid Way to Read Time

·2 min read

A fluid dial, an in-house calibre and an elegant new reading of mechanical time: the Ressence TYPE 10 makes complexity feel effortless.

Some watches want to be admired for the machinery they contain. The Ressence TYPE 10 DN does something more subtle: it makes that machinery disappear, leaving time to move across the wrist like a living surface. That, to me, is a very contemporary kind of elegance.

Unveiled at Watch Time New York on 16 October 2026, the TYPE 10 is the first oil-filled Ressence powered by the brand’s own RW-04 calibre. Its deep-blue “Dark Night” edition is limited to 100 pieces. The colour is not simply applied to the case: titanium, dial and integrated rubber strap read as one quiet, continuous object.

A dial that seems to float

Ressence has long questioned the familiar arrangement of hands circling a fixed dial. Its patented ROCS system replaces them with rotating discs. On the TYPE 10, those indications appear unusually close to the crystal, almost freed from the depth of the watch. The effect comes from an oil-filled upper chamber: the movement remains in air, while the ROCS 10 display glides through silicone-based oil.

The two sealed chambers communicate through magnetic attraction across the titanium case, with no physical shaft passing between them. It is a beautiful answer to a practical problem, and the reason the display feels less like a collection of parts than a single graphic composition.

Complexity, kept quiet

Inside, the self-winding RW-04 calibre is made up of 252 components and offers a 60-hour power reserve. The complete watch contains 538 components, including 196 in the oil-filled display module. Yet the numbers never become the point. They are there to support a reading of time that feels immediate, clear and almost effortless.

The TYPE 10 DN measures 41.5 mm across and weighs 82 grams. Its Grade 5 titanium case has a hard coating, while the integrated strap carries the same midnight-blue tone. A second time zone, a 120-second runner that also helps stabilise the magnetic transmission, and a colour-coded oil-temperature indication are folded into the display without crowding it.

What I admire is the restraint. Ressence has taken an intricate mechanical system and edited it until the wrist sees calm. That is a rare design achievement: not adding spectacle, but making innovation feel natural. The TYPE 10 does not ask us to learn a new language of time. It simply makes us want to look again.
