The Rimac C_Two electric hypercar was unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show and redefined what an electric performance car could be. Founded in Croatia in 2009 by Mate Rimac, the company had already made its name with the Concept One (1,228 hp), but the C_Two, later renamed the Nevera for production, took those numbers into a different atmosphere entirely: 1,914 hp, 2,360 Nm of torque, 0 to 97 km/h in 1.85 seconds and a top speed of 412 km/h.

 

Power and Drivetrain Architecture

Four bespoke surface-mounted permanent magnet motors drive each wheel independently. The front axle uses a single-speed unit while the rear wheels each have a two-speed gearbox: one ratio tuned for the violent initial acceleration, the second for sustained high-speed performance. A four-wheel torque vectoring system monitors and adjusts power delivery continuously, giving the C_Two exceptional traction in all driving modes. A dashboard knob lets the driver dial in how much rear slip is permitted, making controlled drifts a deliberate and accessible option rather than a dangerous edge-case.

Battery and Range

The 120kWh battery pack is a custom H-shaped unit containing 6,960 cells, liquid-cooled and designed to deliver 1.4 megawatts of peak power. Rimac engineered the battery to serve a structural role as well: integrated into the carbon fibre monocoque, it adds 37 percent more chassis stiffness than the bodyshell alone. Range is 650 km, and the system accepts DC fast charging from 0 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes.

Technology: Beyond the Performance Numbers

Facial recognition unlocks the gullwing doors as the driver approaches. A weather detection system reads conditions and automatically adjusts powertrain mapping. A mood detection system, reading biometric signals, softens throttle response and suspension setting when it registers driver stress, and queues calming music. At track events, the car references an onboard database of circuit layouts to overlay racing lines and braking markers on the display. A co-driver mode provides turn-by-turn coaching data to a passenger. When not being driven at all, the C_Two manages Level 4 autonomous driving using eight cameras, six radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors and LiDAR, processed by 72 ECUs delivering a combined computing output comparable to 22 laptops working in parallel.

From C_Two to Nevera: Production Reality

The C_Two was not a concept despite the name. Rimac confirmed production and the car entered the market as the Nevera, named after the sudden electrical storms on the Croatian Adriatic coast. Production is limited to 150 units. The first delivery went to 2016 Formula One World Champion Nico Rosberg in August 2022. The price is approximately 2 million euros.
