Rolls-Royce Unveils Hybrid Aircraft Concept - TheArsenale

Rolls-Royce has been making some of the worlds most powerful and reliable plane engines for almost a century now. This time, they seem to be leaping into the future with their latest aircraft concept.

This concept is a VTOL capable "air taxi" that is meant to facilitate air transportation in urban areas. The time-tested M250 engine has been adapted to use an electric generator that feeds four wing propellers and two wing ones. Thanks to the rotating wings, the hybrid aircraft can change the direction of the propellers to takeoff vertically and then tilt them backwards to propel the aircraft forward. The interior is quite spacious with space for 5 passengers in sportscar like seats.

It claims to have a range of up to 500 miles and a top speed of 250 mph, which should make inner and inter city trips quite fast. Considering its VTOL capabilities, that makes it easy to land and take off anywhere. This makes it practical for dense urban areas who can adapt their infrastructure with takeoff spaces designed for these taxis. If these make it into production, our Ubers will be coming from the sky.
