Tesla Releases Limited Surfboards, Limited as Usual

Tesla Releases Limited Surfboards, Limited as Usual - TheArsenale

Tesla released a run of 200 limited-edition Tesla surfboards, priced at $1,500 each, in collaboration with legendary shaper Matt "Mayhem" Biolos of Lost Surfboards. The boards sold out in under 24 hours, and with resale prices quickly reaching $3,000 and eventually ten times the retail price, they became among the most sought-after pieces of Tesla merchandise ever produced.

Design and Construction

Tesla's design studio worked with Biolos on a shape that directly mirrors the company's car design language. The board uses real carbon fiber reinforced with fiberglass, finished with the same gloss treatment applied to the Model S body panels. The result is a surfboard that looks like it belongs in a Tesla showroom: the red and black colour scheme, paired with Tesla logos on both deck and bottom, makes the brand identity unmistakable. Matt Biolos contributed his signature Black Dart carbon fiber technology to the construction, giving the board genuine performance credentials beyond its collectible appeal. The Model S, Model X, and Model 3 can all accommodate the board either inside the cabin or on the exterior.

How 200 Boards Sold Out in One Day

Tesla has a well-established playbook for limited merchandise drops: a small run, a low enough price to feel accessible, and a very short window. The flamethrowers from The Boring Company and branded merchandise like hats have sold out similarly quickly. The surfboard followed the same pattern. All 200 units were claimed on the day of release, with delivery windows quoted at 2 to 10 weeks. Shortly after the sellout, secondary market listings began appearing at multiples of the retail price, with boards eventually trading above $10,000.

The Tesla Surfboard as a Collectible

Beyond surfing, the Tesla board occupies a unique space as an automotive brand collectible. It is simultaneously a functional piece of surf equipment and an artefact of Tesla's cultural moment. For surf enthusiasts who are also Tesla owners or enthusiasts, it represents a rare intersection between two distinct lifestyle worlds.
