TWINGO E-TECH PREPARES FOR PARIS MOTOR SHOW DEBUT

The Twingo E-Tech electric is Renault's bid to make city car electrification genuinely affordable. The fourth-generation Twingo debuted as a prototype at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, presented alongside a campaign led by TheArsenale Agency. The production version launched from 19,490 euros in early 2026, targeting urban drivers with a 263 km WLTP range, an 82 hp motor, and a 27.5 kWh LFP battery developed by Renault's electric vehicle division Ampere.

Design: Monovolume DNA and Floating LED Rings

The Twingo E-Tech prototype keeps the monovolume silhouette that made the original 1992 Twingo iconic. Its proportions are compact, measuring 3.78 metres in length, yet the fourth generation grows slightly compared to previous iterations to improve interior space without sacrificing urban agility. A turning circle of 9.87 metres, remarkable for this segment, confirms the car's city credentials.

At the front, LED headlamps sit inside floating rings, a modern interpretation of the Twingo's historically expressive face. A fixed glass roof floods the interior with natural light. The five-door layout remains for practical daily access, and the rear carries cheerful signature lights that reference the original while reading as contemporary. Renault describes the Twingo's design philosophy as "voitures a vivre": cars for living rather than merely transporting.

Powertrain and Range: 27.5 kWh LFP Battery, 263 km WLTP

The production Twingo E-Tech uses a 27.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, a chemistry choice that prioritises longevity, thermal stability, and long-term cost of ownership over maximum energy density. The 82 hp electric motor drives the front wheels. WLTP range is quoted at 263 km, appropriate for a vehicle that will do the vast majority of its work within city limits and suburban commutes, where daily distances rarely exceed 50 km.

The Ampere division, Renault Group's dedicated electric passenger car company, developed the platform in collaboration with the Advanced China Development Center (ACDC), a joint engineering team that accelerates EV architecture development by accessing Chinese electric drivetrain expertise. The result is a production-ready EV at a price point that undercuts most equivalently specified competitors.

Pricing and Trim Levels: Starting from 19,490 euros

The Twingo E-Tech electric entered the market in spring 2026 from 19,490 euros in Evolution specification. The Techno version, with a richer equipment list, positions at approximately 21,100 euros. French government clean vehicle incentives (bonus ecologique) could reduce the effective price to around 15,300 euros for qualifying households, bringing the Twingo E-Tech into genuinely accessible territory for a first-time EV buyer.

This places it directly below the Renault 5 E-Tech and Renault 4 E-Tech in the Ampere lineup, forming a three-model family of affordable French electric cars that also includes the Dacia Spring at the entry point of the segment.
