The Wally 93 sailing yacht is a 28.3-meter carbon cruiser-racer designed by naval architects Judel/Vrolijk in collaboration with Luca Bassani, the founder of Wally Yachts. Combining the hull lines of the Wally Cento superyacht with the racing DNA of Maxi72 pure racers, the Wally 93 blends offshore performance with six-guest accommodation and a lush interior, producing one of the most compelling sailing yachts in the performance cruiser category.
Who Makes the Wally 93?
Wally Yachts is an Italian yacht builder founded by Luca Bassani in Monaco in 1994. The company earned its reputation by building high-performance sailing yachts that refuse to sacrifice aesthetics for speed or comfort for racing ability. The Wally 93 represents that philosophy applied to the cruiser-racer segment: a yacht built to race hard and live aboard in genuine comfort, designed by the same Judel/Vrolijk naval architecture studio responsible for some of the fastest offshore performance boats in the world.
Construction: High Modulus Carbon Fiber
The Wally 93 is built using high-modulus unidirectional carbon fiber in CNC female carbon molds, using construction techniques borrowed from America's Cup campaigns. This approach produces a hull of exceptional rigidity at low displacement: the complete yacht displaces 35.5 tonnes, and the reduced weight directly translates into greater sail-carrying ability and upwind performance in light-to-medium conditions. The deck is sculpted into a clean, flush profile that conceals the central social cockpit behind coamings fully integrated into the hull.
Performance and Specifications
The Wally 93 carries an upwind sail area of more than 500 square meters and a downwind sail area approaching 1,060 square meters, giving it a sail area to displacement ratio even greater than the Wally Cento. The lifting keel adjusts draft from 4.5 to 6.2 meters for versatile sailing in both shallow anchorages and offshore conditions. A 255 hp Steyr diesel provides auxiliary power. The yacht can sail effectively from 16 knots of wind upward, delivering the performance numbers associated with dedicated offshore racers.
Interior Design by Luca Bassani
Interior design was handled by Luca Bassani himself, who brought the same philosophy to the below-decks spaces that defined the exterior: innovation without compromise. The layout accommodates six guests in well-separated cabins, with the salon providing a private, refined social environment. Crew quarters and guest cabins feature generous dimensions rare at this length. Weight distribution was managed so that the luxury interior does not compromise the performance intended by the hull design.
