The Robocar is the world's first fully autonomous electric race car, designed by concept artist Daniel Simon for Roborace and offered here as a non-running show sculpture on display in the Miami store.
The Story
Robocar was developed by Roborace as the flagship of a new racing category built entirely around self-driving cars. The bodywork was designed by Daniel Simon, the concept artist behind the vehicles of Tron: Legacy, Captain America and Oblivion, and translates his futurist design language into a functional single-seater silhouette without a cockpit. Roborace's ambition was to eventually run Robocars against human-driven cars, using AI to eliminate the driver as the limiting factor. This unit is the show version of the car: full bodywork, no drivetrain, no electronics.
Performance
In its full-running specification, the Robocar draws power from four electric motors, each rated at 135 kW, for a combined output around 500 to 550 horsepower. Power routes through the driveline to Michelin tires developed specifically for the platform. The teardrop-shaped carbon body is optimised for downforce without a driver aperture, and the onboard compute stack is built around the Nvidia Drive PX 2 AI processor to handle real-time perception, planning and control. Roborace quotes a top speed of 300 km/h (190 mph).
