AUDI REVIVES CLASSIC 1971 NSU PRINZ AS ELECTRIC RESTOMOD

AUDI REVIVES CLASSIC 1971 NSU PRINZ AS ELECTRIC RESTOMOD - TheArsenale

This Audi restomod, officially called the EP4, takes a classic 1971 NSU Prinz 4L and turns it into a fully electric sports car. Built by a group of Audi apprentices to mark 150 years of the Neckarsulm plant, the EP4 swaps the original air-cooled engine for a 240 hp electric motor, proving that vintage charm and modern EV performance can live in the same car.

Audi's transformation of the classic 1971 NSU Prinz into a spunky electric restomod is a true testament to the brand's innovation and commitment to sustainability. By embracing modern technology and combining it with the heritage of this vintage car, Audi shows its ability to push boundaries and create unique experiences. The project name EP4 stands for "Electric Prinz 4," a fitting badge for one of the most charming German EV conversions yet.

What powers the Audi NSU Prinz electric restomod?

According to Hagerty, the EP4 uses a 240 hp electric motor borrowed from the Audi e-tron, with a battery pack taken from the Q7 TFSI e quattro plug-in hybrid and mounted where the fuel tank used to sit. That is a dramatic leap from the original Prinz 4, whose rear-mounted 598cc two-cylinder engine made roughly 30 hp. The apprentices also fitted an Audi A1 floor pan, widened the body, and 3D-printed muscular new fenders.

Why are electric restomods so popular?

Restomods like this electric NSU Prinz are gaining popularity among enthusiasts who want a perfect fusion of classic aesthetics and contemporary performance. By breathing new life into old cars, companies like Audi offer the best of both worlds. As Motor1 notes, converting to an electric drivetrain reduces emissions and contributes to a greener future while also sharpening the driving experience. The decision to make the NSU Prinz electric aligns perfectly with the growing demand for eco-friendly transportation.
