That engine alone produces significant output, but the W1's full system power comes from pairing it with a radial flux electric motor integrated into a new, lighter E-module. The combined output is 1,275 PS (938 kW, approximately 1,258 hp) and 1,340 Nm of torque. The battery technology is directly derived from McLaren's Formula 1 program.
An 8-speed dual-clutch transmission manages power delivery, incorporating an integrated E-Differential that distributes torque between rear wheels with precision. McLaren quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 5.8 seconds, and a top speed of 350 km/h. Dry weight is 1,399 kg, giving a power-to-weight ratio of 911 PS per tonne. Formula 1-derived suspension geometry and hydraulic steering complete the driver-focused package.

Active Long Tail and McLaren Aerocell: 1,000 kg of Downforce
The W1's aerodynamic architecture combines the McLaren Aerocell body structure with an Active Long Tail rear wing system. The active wing can raise, lower, and rotate through multiple angles: a downforce mode for corners, an air brake mode for deceleration, and a DRS mode that reduces drag for straight-line speed. Total downforce generation reaches 1,000 kg, a number more commonly associated with GT racing cars than road vehicles.
The Anhedral doors, a McLaren signature, have been redesigned for the W1 to incorporate integrated aero blades. These manage airflow around the door openings and into the side intakes, serving both aerodynamic and theatrical purposes. Every surface on the W1 has a functional aerodynamic role.

Design and Heritage: Successor to the P1
The McLaren W1 is officially the successor to the McLaren P1, the hybrid hypercar that defined McLaren's approach to hybrid performance when it launched in 2013. Where the P1 used a twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 with a single electric motor and 916 PS combined, the W1 expands every dimension: a larger engine, new dedicated F1-derived battery technology, higher combined output, more downforce, and a wider aero profile. Exclusivity: 399 Units, All Allocated
McLaren produced just 399 examples of the W1. All were allocated to existing customers before the public debut.
