Why the GMW-B5000 Is Different
The original G-Shock DW-5000 from 1983 was built around a resin case designed to survive a 10-metre drop. Nearly four decades later, Casio rebuilt that same silhouette entirely in stainless steel, then used a laser to carve the grid pattern into the ion-plated black finish, revealing the underlying silver metal beneath. The result is a watch that reads as genuinely retrofuturistic: arcade-era geometry rendered in precision metalwork.
Features and Specifications
The GMW-B5000 carries the full suite of G-Shock technology. Tough Solar charging keeps the battery topped up in ambient light. Multi-Band 6 atomic timekeeping syncs to radio time signals across six transmission stations worldwide, ensuring accuracy to within one second. Bluetooth connectivity links to the G-Shock connected app for time zone management and firmware updates. The resin inner cushioning structure absorbs shock, preserving the impact resistance that defines every G-Shock despite the metal exterior. Water resistance is rated to 200 metres.
