HERVET X TA SKATEBOARD UNITES CRAFTSMANSHIP AND EXCLUSIVITY
The collaboration between Hervet Manufacturier and TheArsenale has produced one of the most precisely crafted luxury skateboards to exist as a collectible design object. Hervet, a French atelier known for handcrafted furniture and geometric design work, applied its full production standards to a limited-edition skateboard that is part functional board and part gallery piece. The result demonstrates how far the skateboard can travel as a design medium when the right craftspeople are involved.
Who Is Hervet Manufacturier?
Hervet Manufacturier is a French design house rooted in the craft tradition of hand-built furniture. Their work is characterised by modern geometry, clean material expression, and the kind of attention to joinery and surface finish that is rare in production furniture and practically unheard of in the skateboard category. The company sources its woods from France and works each piece through a production process that prioritises material quality and handcraft consistency over speed or volume.
TheArsenale selected Hervet as the right collaborator for this project specifically because of that manufacturing precision. The brief was not to produce a branded skateboard but to produce the best-made skateboard possible within the visual language of TheArsenale, and to treat the object with the same seriousness that Hervet applies to its furniture.
The Skateboard: Specification and Craft
The deck is constructed from French wood, hand-selected and finished. TheArsenale's signature dark black paint is applied across the entire surface, with the deck face featuring a full laser-cut pattern and laser-cut TheArsenale logo. The precision of the laser work is what distinguishes this board from printed alternatives: the geometry is cut into the material, not printed onto it, which means the pattern has depth and tactility rather than simply surface ink.
The hardware, including wheels, trucks, and bearings, is finished in black throughout, maintaining a completely monochromatic visual language. Every element of the board was considered as a single unified object rather than assembled from generic components. The Hervet x TheArsenale skateboard is a limited-edition piece that sold out on initial release, underscoring the appetite for objects that bridge functional sport culture and design collectibles.
Skateboard as Design Object: The Broader Context
The skateboard has been a medium for artists and designers since at least the late 1970s, but the quality gap between graphic-print decks and genuinely craft-made objects remained wide for decades.
