The Morgan Plus 8 50th Anniversary Special Edition combines craftsmanship, luxury + technology
Strictly limited to 50 examples, Morgan Motor Company celebrates its hand-built V8-powered Plus 8 roadster with a special edition model. The 1930's-styled body cloaks a lightweight aluminium chassis and 4.8-litre BMW engine sit beneath; weighing in at just 1,100 kg, the Plus 8 is up there with the lightest V8 passenger cars in the world and is capable of 0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds, hitting top speed at 155 mph (250 km/h). Throughout Morgan's history, a significant number of prototypes and its most successful racing version, MMC11, were known for their distinctive blue paint, and this is reflected in the ‘speedster-style’ open cockpit version. The Plus 8’s colours are selected to celebrate this tradition. A true British sports car, the 50th Anniversary edition will also be produced in British Racing Green – the colour associated with over 109 years of Morgan Motor Company. The green models will be specified with a soft-top for open air racing. Each car is dressed by the British-automoaker's craftspeople with graphic work applied beneath the lacquer as a signifier of the special nature of the roadster. It is also finished with a unique number on the exterior back panel of the car. Accents on the car celebrating Morgan’s motorsport history include towing eyes in yellow, sporty white brake callipers and, ceramic-coated twin-cannonstyle white exhaust tips. The exhausts have been specially made to amplify and refine the dramatic V8 engine roar. Drawing inspiration from the first production Plus 8, MMC 11, a spun aluminium domed panel adorns the rear of the vehicle, while a plaque inside each car denotes its unique number of production. Suchlike the EQUUS BASS770 luxury muscle car, this anniversary edition is befitting for any garage that showcases a series of dream toys.
